The New Man on the Scene

The New Man on the Block- Joey Pietsch Whenever I watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” I always watch the scene at the dance in disbelief. George claims that he never realized Mary “grew up” after admitting that he saw her every day. Well, last night at Feathers I lived that moment. I have known Joey Pietsch for more years than either one of us would like to admit to. He was a newbie who would tag-along with Chris Rascal and Tony Mona, and recently a worker at the bar. I say recently because I am not a frequent customer. I am not a frequent customer because the excitement is gone. Club Feathers is too young for me. Last night on a whim I decided to go out and see friends. When I arrived at the club there was a velvet rope blocking the entrance to the upstairs. Darryl (a new waiter, but old friend) explained that it was a meet and greet VIP party for Bianca Del Rio. Who? It seems that Bianca Del Rio is a contestant in RuPaul’s Drag Race. She is very popular and has a fan club of many. When I got to the top of the stairs I looked onto the dance floor and saw a flood of people waiting to greet their “messiah-ess”. I was a little surprised, but curious. I spoke to Eddie, the manager, who was getting paper cuts from all the tips he was collecting. He just loved that the club was so busy and had Joey to thank. Joey? Really? Bianca made her entrance to an earth shattering round of applause! I WAS IN AWE! She not only posed and smiled for EVERY person that was waiting to see her, but chatted with each and every one. Not for one moment did she feel inconvenienced. There was a step and repeat backdrop that featured Feathers logo that adorned all the photos, taken by a TERRIFIC photographer- JAMIE! After the hour meet and greet, and after all were satisfied, I expected Bianca to disappear into the dressing room until show time. Wrong! She walked around the club and chatted with everyone. She posed and engaged in conversation making everyone feel like that special someone. I overheard her tell someone that the exposure from the RuPaul Drag Race is a little overwhelming. “I’m still me, but so many people now know me. It’s unbelievable!” The drinks were flowing and laughs continued all night. Lady Tita did not let the crowd down and had them channeling their energy onto the dance floor. She just added the right element to make the night so memorable. The bars were three deep and I did not see Scott or Vinnie complaining. Moira, recently voted NJ Best Club Manager, had the crowd under control and was enjoying the evening along with everyone else. Downstairs found Paul and a new bartender, Michael serving up the crowd. The place was so packed! It reminded me of the old Monday dollar nights. Show time came and Bianca Del Rio did not let the audience down. She was on and took control of the entertainment. They had a tighty whitey underwear contest. She had them throwing themselves at her and did not lack audience participation! My sides were in pain from laughing so hard. She concluded the evening with a humble thank you and was taken off guard when Tone-Tone, from the CAKE BOSS, presented a cake to her-the cherry on the top of an unforgettable evening. As I drove home I thought of the evening and realized I had so much fun in a place I thought was too young for me. Joey Pietsch is just what Feathers needs. He knows where the club came from, and what the customers today want. He is bringing the club experience out of the past and into the future. Everyone will have their own Feathers stories and experiences and that is how it should be, but it’s nice to be able to walk into your past and not feel like a dinosaur. Joey has made the parties “age friendly” and is seen making sure the evening goes as planned. What could have been a disaster was a spectacular! JOEY PIETSCH has a few more parties coming up check them out! (Friend Joey on facebook or like FEATHERS NEW JERSEY) YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THEM! WISH YOU WERE HERE...xoxo
